CATAG created this Position Statement to facilitate and support the translation of best available evidence into practice regarding the use of the volatile anaesthetic gas desflurane and to support Medicines and Therapeutics Committees (MTCs), Health Service Organisations and health professionals in their evaluation, approval and use of desflurane.
An expert advisory group (EAG) was convened to review the evidence, agree on consensus statements, review drafts and feedback and approve the final Position Statement.
This Position Statement is based on a narrative review of the literature and reviews the quality of evidence around the safety, efficacy, cost-effectiveness, therapeutic necessity, and environmental impact of desflurane.
